EMERGING
A journey through menopause and out into second spring. IWD Daisy Chain Flower Crown #IWD
She washes into the harbour of this new land,
sheltering after four years on the wild seas of change.
She can barely remember the great visions she held for her future self,
to write and share the new menopause story
But her womb created, her heart healed
as she journalled daily pages
She recalls how only two years ago she scattered seeds,
celebrating the lives of women from menarche to menopause.
How only last year it blossomed into an exhibition,
sharing her own spoken words into a hall of hopeful faces
She holds the seedling fiercely to her chest but it feels a lifetime ago…
Four years she has traversed the seas of the soul,
wandering the waves of wisdom,
bruised by sudden winds of change
A heroines journey
of losing and finding herself over and over…
She left the tired relationship with her mother in those waters,
too heavy for the next chapter,
mighty menopause finally giving her the courage to go
This past year a blur of messy pain and grief
as she loosened the old her with every moon,
letting parts of herself scatter across the menopause seas
Now feet firmer in second spring,
the mist clears and the air smells of possibility
The sand between her toes transports her
back to seaside days with Grandad,
squeezing his cigarette stained hands of love
Her boat has weathered stormy skies and
witnessed the dying embers of an old story
Time now for her sails to be stitched tenderly together,
restored and repaired before embarking on the seas once again…
emerging from the harbour when the time is right

Beautiful. What a sentiment to consider the second spring. Your words brought up such feeling and sensation. X
This is beautiful, so much strength in your words and between the lines. I love the idea of a second spring, it feels so uplifting. Thank you for rewriting the narrative xx
